After the sweltering heatwave, earlier in the week, Thursday was a perfect overcast mild day, for our golf event at Whiteleaf Golf Club. It was a very successful day, attended by 44 golfers, making up 11 teams of 4. Steve Ashton organised the nine hole ‘shotgun’ start, where each team teed off from a different hole on the course at the same time. There were prizes for the first two teams, and Mike Grout provided a very useful funny course guide that included fines for a variety of errant shots! In addition, there were prizes for the ‘longest drive’ and ‘nearest the pin’. Bearing in mind the recent dry weather, the course was in excellent condition, and the rain the night before helped to ‘green’ things up a bit. Certainly, all the golfers seemed to really enjoy themselves.
After finishing the round, we all convened in the clubhouse, where Tim & Steve totted up the scores and our evening guests arrived for a two-course meal, provided by Kim and her catering team, and throughout the evening we were looked after extremely well by Jane and Jo behind the bar.
We were able to raise a substantial sum by auctioning four excellent items a two-night stay in a London flat, seats for two at a Manchester Utd football match, a four-ball golf game at Castle Royle Golf Club, and a Maureen Black monoprint. We also held a raffle after securing some very generous raffle prizes from AB Golf, The Plough at Cadsden, Coco Tamarind, The Jolly Cricketers, Greenfields Entertainment, and many more donated items and bottles of booze.
Kate and Lizzie gave a talk about our Ukrainian community, and the ‘Ukraine 2 Chilterns’ charity, highlighting its purposes and sponsors, and where and how funds are distributed.
We would like to thank all who attended and supported the event particularly our generous sponsors, including Mark, Michael, Jane, Kim and the team at Whiteleaf Golf Club.
